Submission Guidelines
For the “Norman Mailer” Publication
The “Norman Mailer” Publication (NMP) acts as a companion to The Mailer Review. Like the latter, the NMP publishes “articles, notes, creative works, interviews, cultural / biographical commentary, images, and book reviews relevant to the life and work of Norman Mailer.”
The NMP posts contributions from the Mailer community at large — the equally important and enthusiastic expert amateurs of Norman Mailer’s life and work.
Submissions
The “Norman Mailer” Publication wants anything you would care to write about Norman Mailer — his life and his work — or other works that have a relationship to Mailer. Examples of what we publish include:
- Reviews, interpretations, analyses, or commentary about his work;
- Notes about a specific portion of Mailer’s work, like a theme, character, or motif;
- Personal experiences with Mailer, his family, places he lived and/or worked, parties, outings, etc.
- Original creative works — stories, poems, etc. — about Mailer, influenced by him, or somehow connected to him;
- Essays or formal literary criticism from any critical perspective;
- Scans or transcripts of original artifacts by or about Mailer;
- Multimodal pieces — like photo essays, podcasts, etc. — concerning Mailer;
- Blog posts that have been previously published as long as whole post is present (cross-posting is acceptable as long as a link to the original post is provided).

Writing
Once you have been added as a writer, you should prepare your post for submission. When doing this:
- follow the Medium Style Sheet;
- understand how to write with Medium (we recommend these best practices and look at these tips and tricks);
- cite all of your sources — if applicable — using Digital Citation (this is publishing for the screen, not paper);
- proofread your post for typos and common mistakes (we recommend the Editor’s Checklist or getting a friend to help);
- revise your style for web readability (we recommend the Hemingway Editor);
- select images and other multimedia (this is a multimodal platform, after all) that is the highest quality possible (images should not be low resolution — especially when using a title image; find some high quality stock images; see Nick Fisher’s “Images” for guidance).
All set? Submit your post as a draft to the publication. Thanks for your interest in our collection and Norman Mailer.
